Bought a New ipod ?, Thinking of ditching the old one? I reckon , you won't ditch the old one after reading this post. yes, Here in this post you will be learning how to convert your old (useless) ipods into a pocket encyclopedia( to be precise, into a wikipedia)…….
This trick that i am gonna reveal it you now , brings the Wikipedia, which is one of the largest encyclopedias in the world, to your Apple iPod. This trick can be done on iPod genarations one to four, as well as on iPod Minis and Photo iPods to get the desired results.
First of all,you will be installing a software into your ipod through your computer (Wait! , don't hurry the download link for the software will be provided )
Follow these steps given below to install encyclopedia from Windows operating system:
1.Check whether your iPod is supported: Encyclopodia can be installed on iPods genaration one to four, as well as on iPods mini and Photo iPods. If your iPod is newer than that, the setup wizard will refuse to install Encyclopodia on your iPod. 2. Download the free encyclopaedia software here 3.Connect your iPod to the USB-port of your Computer.Start iTunes if it doesn't start up automatically. 4.Click on the player options button at the bottom of the iTunes window.
- Switch on your iPod.
- If you have a 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation iPod, hold down the menu and the play button for 5 seconds. If you have a fourth generation iPod or an iPod mini, hold down the menu and the select button for 5 seconds. This will cause the iPod to reboot.
- While the iPod boots, hold down the rewind button unless you have told the installation wizard to make Encyclopodia the default system.
That's it! Enjoy the encyclopedia on the go .
Follow These steps if you are using a Mac/linux operating system on your computer :
1.First install the ipodlinux-System on your iPod by following the steps on the page http://ipodlinux.org/Installation. Test whether the system works on your iPod.
2.If you're using Windows, you may not be able to access the ext3-partition that was just created on your iPod. To do this, get an ext2/3-Driver for Windows, eg. this one.
2.Download the Encyclopodia base system, delete the data on the ext3-Partition of your iPod and unpack the base-system on the (now empty) ext3-partition of your iPod.
3.Open the "data"-folder of the FAT32-partition on your iPod (if you have a Mac-formatted iPod, you have to create a "data" directory as subdirectory of the "mnt"-folder of your iPod). Create a subdirectory called "encyclopodia" and unpack your language pack there. Your iPod's FAT32-partition should now have the following directory structure:
root directory
- iPod_Control (hidden directory)
- Notes
- data
- encyclopodia
- system
- i18n
- sysebook.epodia
- library (empty directory)
- system
- encyclopodia
5.If you have a 1st, 2nd or 3rd generation iPod, hold down the menu and the play button for 5 seconds. If you have a fourth generation iPod or an iPod mini, hold down the menu and the select
button for 5 seconds. This will cause the iPod to reboot.
6.When the iPod boots, you can choose whether to boot in normal mode (for playing music) or in encyclopodia mode by holding the "rewind" key.
That's it! Enjoy the encyclopedia on the go .
