At last all the rumors has been put to rest by the release of most speculated and also the most awaited iphone 3g .yes, Apple CEO steve jobs released the much awaited iphone 3G during the 1st birthday celebration of its predecessor.lets see the first look at the iphone 3G and find out whats the catch in the phone.

Design:

Apple iphone 3G is slightly thinner and lighter than its predecessor .They’ve also added a new color to the line up – White – but that’s only available with the 16GB model. The other models will now have a glossy black rear casing. at last,Apple has got away with the irritating headphone jack. which now is flush so that you'll be able to use any 3.5mm headphones you like. Instead of a simple flat back it now also tapers a bit to give it a sleeker look and feel. Everything else design-wise hasn’t changed too much.still, iphone 3g lacks a secondary camera in front.

3G technologies enable network operators to offer users a wider range
of more advanced services while achieving greater network capacity through improved spectral efficiency. With support for three 3G bands (850, 1900, 2100) and both UMTS and HSDPA networks, the iPhone 3G is well positioned for using high-speed
networks all around the world.

Considering that Apple is promising to bring the device to 70 countries, it had better be.During his WWDC keynote, Jobs demonstrated Web download speeds between the two iPhones. On the original model, which runs on a 2.5G EDGE network, a photo-heavy website loaded in 59 seconds, while the same site loaded in 21 seconds on the new device–impressive, but we take it with a grain of salt for now. Real-world tests, particularly with a multitude of devices flooding the same network, will be more telling.

The new iPhone 3G is going to be equipped with an integrated GPS unit along with a few other location-based services to help enhance that feature especially with google Maps live tracking and photo Geotagging. While the current iPhone location services find your position via nearby cell phone towers and satellites .iphone 3G also offers live tracking so you can monitor your progress as you drive (or walk) along.

Battery life:

The iPhone 3G promises a solid 5 hours of 3G talk time, 10 hours of 2G talk time, 5 hours of 3G internet time, 6 hours of Wi-Fi Internet time, 7 hours of video playback, 24 hours of audio playback, and 12.5 days standby time. Other features:

The iphone 3G will also have TypePad, a native blogging application for the iPhone, so bloggers can easily upload images and content. Associated Press will also have a native iPhone application – the "Mobile News Network." It will allow users to watch news videos as well as upload images to AP. The AppStore will now be stocked with fresh new games including Sega’s Monkey Ball, 3D racing games etc. available for download but would cost about $9.99 per game.
The latest iPhone 2.0 SDK will launch in July. It’ll be free for iPhone users and cost $10 for iPod Touch users.

The odds:

Apple still leaves multimedia messaging out of the mix along with voice dialing and video recording. I still don't understand why Apple can't include these basic features, many found in even the cheapest and simplest cell phones.
